The Azure Road Take

Coco Hotel is the first hotel by Danish hospitality group Copenhagen Food Collective (Cofoco), opened in 2020 as an 89-room boutique hotel centrally located in the Vesterbro neighborhood. Décor blends Parisian vintage charm and modern Danish minimalism with a peaceful verdant courtyard full of bikes and a Scandinavian breakfast at Coco Café.

Who’s it for?

Active travelers and foodies who want to feel like locals in Copenhagen. There is a fleet of bikes available for hotel guests to rent, so you can feel like a local biking to bakeries and Michelin-starred restaurants.

Sustainability Chops

Coco Hotel is a Green Key-certified hotel, meeting environmental requirements with regards to minimizing waste, decreasing energy and water use, and using renewable energy sources. In 2017, Cofoco established a 15-acre solar energy farm, an area equivalent to nine football fields, in Nees in the northwestern part of Jutland. The solar panels generate such a large amount of sustainable energy that, in addition to powering Coco Hotel and all of Cofoco’s restaurants, the solar farm also supplies solar energy to the national energy grid. For every stay booked, Coco Hotel plants a tree in Kenya with Eden Reforestation Projects to offset the CO2 of your stay. Since 2022, they have donated more than 33,000 trees.

Location

Coco Hotel’s central location in Vesterbro is just a few blocks from Copenhagen Central Station and just 15 minutes by taxi from Copenhagen Airport. Once you’re checked in, it’s easy to get around the city by bike or public transportation, and I highly recommend renting a bike from the hotel to explore the city and work up an appetite for all of Copenhagen’s great food. If you arrive in Copenhagen by bike, you even receive a 10% discount on your stay!

Rooms

The smallest single rooms are teeny, but ok for solo travelers who won’t be spending much time inside. I stayed in a double room with my partner and we enjoyed the cheerful but sparse décor, although it would have been nice to have more space in the bathroom and for storing our luggage. All rooms are brightly lit with natural light and have nicely curated minibars with tasty local snacks and refreshments. Beds are comfy with organic cotton linens and Wifi is complimentary.

Food and Drink

Breakfast is included with your stay, served across the street at sister restaurant Delphine. Fresh pressed juices, coffee, yogurt, cheese, fresh fruit, pastries, bread, and eggs make for a healthy and hearty breakfast buffet. During my stay, I happened to catch the leaders of the Copenhagen Half Marathon race past as I enjoyed a croissant, which was a thrilling way to start my morning.

Inside the hotel, Coco Café is a casual all-day cafe serving pastries and coffee that transitions into a natural wine bar in the evening, with local DJs spinning records on Friday and Saturday evenings. The snacky bites aren’t really enough for a full dinner, but it’s a great place to meet friends for a pre- or post-dinner drink. Hotel guests get a 15% discount at any of Copenhagen Food Collective’s 18 restaurants in Copenhagen.

Staff and Service

Everyone on Coco Hotel’s team was friendly and kind, with thoughtful recommendations for everything from beer and wine to pastries and coffee. They were nice enough to let us check in a couple hours early and store our bags upon checkout. Copenhagen Food Collective operates 18 restaurants in Copenhagen and the front desk can help make reservations for hotel guests at any of these, depending on what you might be in the mood for.

Spa and Swim

The hotel does not have a spa or swimming pool, but partners with local brands like AIRE Ancient Baths Copenhagen and Ara’Kai beauty so hotel guests have priority reservations and discounted services.

Accessibility

There is one ADA room located on the ground floor.
