Beyond providing electric vehicles, the partnership introduces guests to the concept of mālama ʻāina on Kauai.

Complimentary house cars have long been a luxury hospitality hallmark, allowing guests to explore new cities and destinations in style. Now, as electric vehicles become more widespread, these programs are evolving, as select hotels have started partnering with electric vehicle makers to provide guests a greener way to get around.

“Sustainability isn’t just a concept here, it’s a lived experience,” explains Alexis Eaton, director of marketing, PR, and programming at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay in Hawaii, which partners with early EV pioneer Audi. “We attract a very conscious traveler, and our Audi e-tron partnership really embodies this philosophy.”

Beyond the environmental appeal, these “EVs as amenities” deliver the kind of sleek design and cutting-edge tech that align perfectly with a high-end hotel stay. From legacy automobile makers introducing electric models to all-new outfits like Lucid Air, there are plenty of options to choose from besides the biggest-known EV brands like Tesla. Whatever your motivation — getting behind the wheel of a world-class car, making responsible environmental choices with your travel plans, or not supporting controversial brands — these five properties are fantastic places to experience having an EV car for a day.

Farmhouse Inn and Volvo

Few roads capture the spirit of California like Highway 1, and experiencing it behind the wheel of Volvo’s all-electric EX90 makes it all the more memorable. Something the Farmhouse Inn, a serene 25-room boutique property tucked along a stretch of the Russian River Valley, can make possible thanks to its long-standing house partnership with the sustainably minded Swedish automaker.

With a picnic lunch from the inn’s restaurant in hand, guests can explore the region in one of four EX90s — available for up to four hours or as part of a chauffeured “Dinner Drive” amenity — with scenic routes curated by the concierge. For the Farmhouse Inn, going all-electric is an extension of an already responsible tourism ethos, which includes sourcing hyper-local ingredients for its restaurant and supporting regenerative agriculture at its Chalk Hill Farm.

The Lodge at Blue Sky and Mercedes-Benz

Set on 3,500 acres in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, the rugged landscape and refined spirit of The Lodge at Blue Sky by Auberge Resorts make it a fitting match for the G 580, the all-electric evolution of Mercedes-Benz’s iconic G-Wagen. As part of a house car program that’s been in place since 2019 (with the G-Class EV joining the fleet in 2023), it’s available for complimentary guest use for up to four hours or can be taken on a curated driving route, including the signature Tour & Taste picnic experience.

But this high-performance pairing isn’t just about style or status. Blue Sky is deeply committed to social purpose, blending immersive travel with meaningful impact – from regenerative farming and supporting community initiatives with local schools to its on-site horse rescue and rehabilitation sanctuary, the Saving Gracie Equine Healing Foundation.

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay and Audi

The partnership between 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay and Audi has been in play for a few years, although the resort will soon be upgrading its fleet of eight house cars to fast-charging Q6 e-trons—mid-size luxury SUVs with an estimated 321-mile range. Bookable through the concierge on a first-come, first-served basis, two-hour test drives allow ample time to explore Hanalei Bay, visit the historic Kīlauea Lighthouse, or spend a Saturday morning at the Anaina Hou Farmers Market

Longer curated and also complimentary Audi Excursions are the most popular, though, and include a cacao tasting at Lydgate Farms (think vineyard-style tour, but for award-winning chocolate) and a coastal cruise to Limahuli Garden, on Kaua’i’s North Shore, which protects rare native plants. The partnership feels like a natural extension of the brand’s core sustainability mission where 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay leads with an impressive roster of impactful environmental initiatives, from native ecosystem restoration to a zero-waste kitchen philosophy.

The Ranch at Laguna Beach and Rivian

A founding member of the Beyond Green portfolio and named the first ocean-friendly hotel in California by the Surfrider Foundation, The Ranch at Laguna Beach has long been a sustainability pioneer. Once an 1800s homestead, now a soulful coastal escape, last summer the boutique resort took its green ethos to the road by becoming the first official hotel partner in the Golden State for adventure-forward, Irvine-based EV maker Rivian. Ranch guests can book complimentary local rides in two R1S SUVs and an R1T pickup through the concierge. Ideal for surfers and mountain bikers, the R1T features paddleboard and bike racks, plus a spacious Gear Tunnel. The front trunk (or “frunk”) on the R1S is perfect for golf bags should teeing off at the resort’s 9-hole GEO Certified golf course appeal more.

Four Seasons Hotel Boston and Lucid

For such a heritage hospitality brand, one would think that the Four Seasons would partner with a legacy carmaker that matches its storied history. But no; at the Four Seasons Hotel Boston, at least, the company is looking to the future through its new partnership with EV up-and-comer Lucid Air. The hotel’s guest experience team curated three self-guided driving routes in honor of the new Lucid Motors partnership, taking advantage of Lucid’s record-breaking 512-mile EPA-estimated range to navigate around New England. For those arriving in their own EVs, two Level 2 Tesla Destination chargers (compatible with all models) are available in the hotel’s garage, free of charge.

Located where Back Bay meets Beacon Hill, and overlooking America’s first public botanical garden, the hotel connects rather effortlessly to Boston’s history and lovely green spaces. That connection extends behind the scenes as well, with sustainability initiatives such as rooftop beehives, a green roof to reduce heat load, and a robust food waste program.
